Board meetings must be effective to deliver on the core governance functions and drive your MAT and its schools forward. This session explores how to get meetings right by providing the necessary challenge, support and decision making.

    About this workshop

    • New MAT trustees or those soon to start in the trustee role 
    • Existing MAT trustees looking to check or refresh their understanding of the role 
    • Trust leaders wanting to develop their understanding of good MAT governance 

    This session will develop your understanding of:

    • The role of meetings, how they can and should work in MATs, and some common challenges
    • How to approach board meetings to make meaningful, informed contributions in terms of question and challenge, discussion and decision making
    • What effective decision making means in the context of a MAT
    • The importance of appropriate trustee behaviour in developing good working relationships and positive board dynamics
    • Led by an experienced facilitator with expertise in MAT governance, this small-group session will allow you to work with other MAT trustees to understand good governance in relation to board meetings, challenge and decision making
    • The session will be interactive using a mixture of participant activities and facilitator-led explanation and discussion
    • It will be supported by session materials, including a Resource Toolkit to direct your next steps
